    How the checker works

These are planning estimates from simple rules of thumb. We haven’t lab-tested your floor.

    • Belt length: We estimate your walking step length as about 41% of your height (or use the number you enter), then add room for a natural stride at your chosen pace. Desk walking is slow and short-stepped; jogging needs the most belt.
    • Belt width: About 15–16 in works for slow desk walking. Brisk walking feels better at 16 in or wider, and jogging at 17.5 in or wider.
    • Space: We add about 12 in of length for the motor hood and rear roller, plus clear space behind the belt: 18 in for desk walking, 24 in for brisk walking, 36 in for jogging. Full-size treadmill safety guidance calls for more, so treat these as minimums.
    • Noise risk: Upper floors in wood-frame buildings carry footfall and motor vibration the most. A neighbor below, hard floors and faster speeds raise the risk. A dense mat helps, but no mat makes a treadmill silent.

    FAQ

Is a walking pad quiet enough for an apartment?

At slow walking speeds on a dense mat, usually yes for daytime use. Jogging on an upper floor in a wood-frame building is the setup most likely to bother the neighbors below.

Can I put a walking pad on carpet?

Many manuals warn against thick carpet, which can trap heat and lint near the motor. A firm mat on top of low-pile carpet is the usual compromise. Check your manual.

How long should a walking pad belt be?

Many compact pads have belts around 36–40 in, which is fine for slow desk walking. Taller walkers and brisk walkers often want 45 in or more, and jogging needs a longer belt with a handrail.
